St. John’s members have supported an exciting Summer camp with Royal Family Kids
for twenty years. This week-long camp is designed for area foster kids to receive a little
extra compassion, care, laughter, and Summer fun. The camp is staffed by church
members as well as friends from the community. The overwhelming success of this off-
site camp away from home is demonstrated by the yearly return of many staff members
as well as continual affirmation from the kids over the years! Some former campers are
even returning in later years by becoming camp counselors.
While a cherished week at camp was not possible this past Summer due to COVID19
restrictions, a short “camp” livened up the Summer right here at the St. John’s facility.
Plans changed several times, and a one hour “drive-in camp” in our church parking lot
was held on August 15. It was nick-named Camp Quarantine. Volunteer t-shirts boldly
stated “20 years of kindness can’t be quarantined.” The hour-long camp included:
A mini birthday celebration with cake
Camp song singing
Distribution of camp t-shirts, camp masks, and clip-on hand sanitizer bottles.
Leadership team members also delivered birthday backpacks and other goodies to
many of the campers who could not attend.
St. John’s continues to look forward to future full camps that are unhampered by a
pandemic and supported by its members both financially and most importantly with
caring volunteers who have a heart for kids.
