Questions:
- Who is Luke writing to?
- What is the purpose of this Gospel, according to Luke?
- What do you see in this chapter that you haven't noticed before?
The word “Advent” is derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming.” Advent is a season of expectation—where Christians gather together to celebrate the coming of the Savior into the world, but also look forward to the return of Jesus Christ to make all things new.
Wrapped up in the season of Advent is the idea of “waiting.” We waited for Jesus to arrive the first time. Then we wait for Him to come again. Meanwhile, we wait in lines as we do our Christmas shopping. We wait for the year to end, and a new one begin. We wait for things to change. All this expectation is tiring. Is the waiting worth it?
This advent season we begin a series called “Advent-ually”. It’s a look at why we wait, what we wait for, and why the promises of God will be ours—when we wait.
Advent-ually your depression will die in the light of His glory and grace.
Advent-ually your fears will flee in the courage the God delivers
Advent-ually your losses will lose their grip in the coming victory of Jesus
Advent-ually your abusers will no longer hold the place in your life in the love of your Savior
Advent-ually Christ will return and “make all things new”
